Help! There is a board name displayed behind my username!
What is an extension, why is it there, how did it get there and how can I get rid of it?
Every username on yuku has an extension. The two most common ones are .u and .nameofboard. The usernames that have .u or .e behind them are called global profiles while the ones with the name of a board behind them are called local profiles.
When you sign up at the yuku home page http://www.yuku.com your profile will be considered global and you will have the .u extension.
When you sign up at any public Yuku board, you will be considered local to that board and you will have the name of the board behind your username. Local profiles can be used on other boards, but when they are used on a board other than the "home" board, the extension shows.
How come the extension doesn't always show?
The extension only shows when you visit communities other than the one where you signed up at. The reason why you can sign up at individual boards is to make more usernames available. There can only be one global version of each username, but there can be many local versions of the name. Say you wish to make your username Mike, chances are great that this name has already been taken globally, but you can still sign up as Mike locally, as long as the name hasn't been taken at that particular board. As long as you post at the community where you signed up, you will not see the extension behind your name, but should you venture out and go to, or post at a different community, you will see your extension. This is to distinguish you from other members on the board who might have the same name. There could be a mike.promote, a mike.stylesampler, etc..
How can I get rid of the extension?
You can't, but you can work your way around it by creating a new name. Please note that if you create a new name on an existing local account, your next name will have the extension as well. Make sure to create the new name on a new account, then submit a ticket, and we'll merge the names for you. Free accounts have one profile, supporter accounts can have 12 profiles. If you have a free account and want to change the name you will need to use another email account or purchase supporter.
Supporter accounts with more than one profile can easily switch between profiles without logging out.
To switch between profiles while you are at a community: Click on the navigation button at the top right of your screen. Click on "switch profile" just above your avatar. Click the name you are switching to in the little blue box. Confirm the switch in the bigger box that will appear.
To switch profiles while you are at your profile page: Click the Home icon In your box with profiles, click the name you wish to switch to.
If my global and my local profile are the same, how will I know which one I'm logged in with?
Log in with your username, using the extension. If you have a mike2324.gethelp profile and a mike2324.u profile. log in as mike2324.u Since both your profiles are on the same account, you can use the same password. If you're not exactly sure which profile you are logged in with, mouse over your username at the top left of your screen. Look down in your status bar where you will see the URL of your profile.
I already started a community with my local profile, but I'm using my global one now. What do I do?
We can transfer ownership of the community from your local to your global profile. In order to have this done, you can contact us via one of our support emails..
My extension looks different than in your examples. It is username.nameofboard.fr how can that be?
This means that you have an account that was migrated from Forumer. To make sure there is no collision with existing names, migrated profiles get the .fr added. Migrated profiles from other networks might have other things added such as fff, mkf, tkf, etc...
All board admins have an option to hide your extension at the board. If you'd rather not create a second profile or account, talk to the board admin where you post and ask if they wish to hide your extension.
